Kuala Lumpur, 11 June 2025 – Tune Protect Group Berhad (“Tune Protect”) has recently partnered with Sunway XFarms to launch the “ Grow & Give” initiative, a strategic programme that combines employee development with meaningful environmental and community impact, where employees will gain hands-on experience in sustainable agriculture through hydroponic farming and contribute to the establishment of a community farm to promote food self-sufficiency among low-income communities.
The “Grow & Give” programme will run across four sessions in May, July, September, and November 2025, with a total of 240 Tune Protect volunteers participating in this meaningful corporate social responsibility initiative. Each session will see the involvement of 60 employees who will contribute their time and effort to support the Petaling Jaya-based Medan Jaya community, home to over 4,000 residents, many of whom face limited access to fresh and nutritious food.
The initiative began with hands-on training at Sunway XFarms, where Tune Protect employees gained practical experience in urban farming, harvesting pesticide-free vegetables, and packing them for distribution to local beneficiaries. Leveraging this knowledge, the team went on to establish a solar-powered community farm to enable sustainable, low-impact food production for long-term community benefit. The effort is further complemented by a community clean-up drive, reinforcing environmental responsibility and contributing to a cleaner, healthier living environment.
Utilizing smart hydroponic farming technology, community farming is remarkably easy to maintain and uses up to 90% less water compared to traditional farming methods. The solar-powered system efficiently circulates water, providing crops with optimal hydration and nutrients, offering residents an accessible and sustainable way to grow their own food long-term. This modern farming technique ensures consistent yields with minimal environmental impact.

The community farm is projected to yield over 240kg of fresh produce annually, providing residents with more than eight varieties of essential vegetables. Furthermore, this sustainable solar farm significantly reduces environmental impact, avoiding over 1,500 sqft of deforestation, 3 tonnes of carbon emissions, 56 tonnes of water, and 960 pieces of plastic typically associated with conventional vegetable farming.
Eleanor Choong, COO of Sunway XFarms, expressed her enthusiasm for the collaboration. “We are pleased to be able to build this community farm alongside Tune Protect, and we are excited to see the fruits of the residents’ labour,” she said. “At Sunway XFarms, empowering urban communities to grow their own food is important to us, and we have always provided different teaching methods to educate students of all levels and socioeconomic statuses. Introducing the residents to fresh vegetables, Tune Protect distributed 50 bags of fresh vegetables, introducing residents to the healthy produce and the benefits of urban farming. Tune Protect staff also led a clean-up drive in communal areas, collecting over 170 kilograms of recyclable waste, including paper, metal scraps, plastic, glass, and electronic waste. This collected waste will be delivered to a recycling partner, with the proceeds benefiting the residence association to help maintain and improve apartment facilities.

Tune Protect Group: Solid 1Q25 led by 100% PAT YoY growth; notable net insurance service result
KUALA LUMPUR, 28 May 2025 – Tune Protect Group Berhad (“Tune Protect” or “Group”; TUNEPRO, 5230) started its new financial year encouragingly in 1Q25 with 100% Year-on-Year (“YoY”) growth of Profit After Tax (“PAT”) on the back of notable net insurance service result. How Kim Lian (“How”), Tune Protect Group’s Chief Executive Officer highlighted several factors that drove the Group’s strong financial performance in 1Q25.
Exponential PAT growth in line with notable net insurance service result
Tune Protect registered more than 100% growth in net insurance service result, or RM5.8 million in 1Q25 with a 16.4% reduction in combined ratio mainly driven by lower net incurred claims, primarily due to more favourable claims experience for Motor and Fire.
“Overall the Group showed financial resilience in the quarter with positive trends with more than 100% growth in PAT YoY attributable to the growth in net insurance service result and the improvement in total other income and expenses.” said How. The Group recorded a PAT of RM7.4 million in 1Q25, compared to a Loss After Tax (LAT) of RM3.9 million YoY.
The slight decline in insurance revenue by 6.5% to RM88.5 million for 1Q2025 was partially mitigated by the weightage increase in the Group’s Travel portfolio. Despite the higher acquisition cost, this is compensated with the improvement in claims and attributable expenses.
“Combined ratio was another key financial highlight. It continued to improve driven by lower net incurred claims and attributable expenses. The improved combined ratio of 93.4% was due to more favourable claims experience for the Motor and Fire segments. On the other hand, the negative share of results recorded by our associate company in Thailand was due to claims on impact of the earthquake in Myanmar, causing aftershocks in Thailand in 1Q25,” How continued.
Positive bottom line led by favourable claims
Riding on the wave of the commendable financial performance, the Group’s bottom line strengthened evidenced by the positive trend of Profit Before Tax (“PBT”). This was led by favourable claims experience from Motor and Fire in addition to the Group’s continuous effort in travel segments. The Group recorded RM10.6 million in PBT in 1Q25 with a positive trend observed over the last three quarters.
Investment income impacted by US tariffs, market volatility
The Group’s lower investment income in 1Q25 was due to several external factors, especially the global market volatility caused by the ongoing uncertainty arising from tariff policies under the United States current President. Regardless, the Group continues to maintain a largely conservative investment strategy.
“In 1Q25, we completed the rebalancing of our portfolio into investment in low-risk unit trust funds which are predominantly invested in Malaysian Government Securities, Government Investment Issues and Government Guaranteed Corporate Bonds. Our unit trust funds have benefited from the strong fixed income rally in April 2025, with potential upside from the anticipated central bank’s rate cut,” said How.
Travel segment boosted by strong take-up rate
Tune Protect continues to expand its market presence and reinforce its position as a digital Travel insurer across Asia and the EMEIA regions. In Asia, the Group activated 6 of the top 10 key agents for its airline partner, bringing the total number of travel agents in Malaysia to 263 as of April 2025. Its regional B2B expansion extended into four new markets, namely Zambia, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, and Kenya.
Distribution channels were further expanded through strategic digital partnerships, including AirPaz in Malaysia, Gettgo in Thailand, and TrueDtac’s e-SIM platform, enabling seamless access to travel and personal accident insurance. In EMEIA, the launch of Pet Health insurance via online aggregator Shory, showcases Tune Protect’s agility in catering to evolving consumer needs.
The Group delivered a 22% YoY revenue increase in the travel segment, driven by revenue optimisation and take up rate initiatives. Particularly in Australia and Japan, Tune Protect rolled out a premium revision exercise for inbound travel product benchmarking against peers in those markets. The Group also continued to achieve a 50% surge in take-up rates on airline platforms, boosted by enhanced UI/UX. The Delay Lounge Pass within the AirAsia Value Pack Bundle has been launched in Vietnam and Indonesia in 1Q25, achieving strong traction with overall 500,000 policies sold as at March 2025.
These results reflect the Group’s commitment to innovation, customer-centricity, and delivering value-added services beyond traditional insurance offerings.
Improved Motor loss ratio
Tune Protect reported a second consecutive quarter of improvement in its 1Q25 Net Claims Incurred (NCI) ratio, primarily driven by enhanced claims management practices. The Group achieved a 5-percentage point YoY reduction in its loss ratio in 1Q25, reflecting improved operational efficiency in claims handling. This initiative will continue to be scaled in the coming quarters, with the expectations of further improvement in loss ratio performance.
In parallel, Tune Protect continued to drive underwriting profitability through price and portfolio optimisation. The average premium for Private Car policies, including Comprehensive and Third Party, Fire and Theft rose by 6% YoY, aligned with the implementation of Phase 2A repricing. Meanwhile, the company’s portfolio mix continued to evolve positively, with the motorcycle segment growing to 18.4% in 1Q25 (up from 17.6% in 4Q24), and Private Car Comprehensive policies above RM50,000 increasing to 25.5% (from 25.1%). These strategic shifts reflect Tune Protect’s continued focus on enhancing risk selection and pricing optimisation to sustain the Motor portfolio in the long term.
Focusing on 3 key pillars with innovative offerings
In line with the Group’s objectives in the travel segment, it is focusing on the 3 pillars of expanding its market presence and reach; establishing a travel centre of excellence; and going beyond insurance for travel experience. Several key initiatives are in the pipeline to further support the Group’s growth ambitions in these 3 key pillars.
Tune Protect will continue to expand its geographic footprint and digital distribution capabilities across key growth markets. In the pipeline, the Group will be extending its insurance product offerings into Pakistan and Uzbekistan, reinforcing its presence in new and emerging markets. Additionally, the reach of its travel insurance products will be broadened through partnerships with online travel agent AirPaz, in both the Indonesia and Thailand markets. Tune Protect Group records strong recovery trend in 4Q24 and FY24 on notable net insurance service results and PAT growth
KUALA LUMPUR, 27 February 2025 – Tune Protect Group Berhad (“Tune Protect” or “Group”; TUNEPRO, 5230) posted record high quarterly and improved annual profits in the fourth quarter and full financial year 2024 (“4Q24”and “FY24”) respectively, boosted by the healthy growth in net insurance service results and Profit After Tax (“PAT”) Year-on-Year (“YoY”). How Kim Lian (“How”), Tune Protect Group’s Chief Executive Officer highlighted several factors that underpinned the Group’s notable financial performance in 4Q24 and FY24.
Outstanding net insurance service result driven by Travel segment
“Overall, the Group’s financial performance in 4Q24 and FY24 was commendable. We registered RM9.5 million PAT for 4Q24 and RM2.7 million for FY24 which signalled a strong recovery trend for the Group,” said How.
The Group’s profits were led by notable growth in net insurance service results, driven by the Travel segment. Net insurance service result for 4Q24 increased 82.8% Quarter-on-Quarter (“QoQ”) to RM11.1 million, and more than 100% YoY to RM3.0 million for FY24. This strong performance was mainly attributable to improvement in our acquisition cost due to changes in our portfolio mix, as well as lower reinsurance ratio.
“Although insurance revenue increased significantly YoY, it declined marginally by 1.2% QoQ to RM99.0 million in 4Q24. Excluding the RM43.6 million Tenang impairment in 4Q23, insurance revenue growth remained strong at 14.2% YoY. Enhanced cost efficiency led to improved combined ratio
Another highlight was the Group’s combined ratio which improved YoY and QoQ in 4Q24. More impressively, even without the impact of Tenang1 scheme impairment, the Group’s combined ratio still managed to improve YoY. Excluding the impairment, 4Q23 combined ratio would have been at 95.5%, representing a 6.8 percentage points improvement.
FY24 results were commendable, with insurance revenue increasing YoY by 4.0% to RM389.2 million and net insurance service result improving YoY at RM3.0 million compared to a loss of RM9.0 million in FY23. The solid improvement of FY24 PAT of RM2.7 million was encouraged by over 100% growth in net insurance service result despite lower investment income due to market volatility and the negative share of results of RM6.6 million from Tune Protect Thailand’s (“TPT”) impairment related to claims recovery.
“We also achieved a combined ratio of less than 100% and lower by 3.2% YoY in FY24. Combined ratio continues to improve due to better cost efficiency and lower reinsurance ratio. This was primarily driven by higher insurance revenue supported by growth in travel, lower allocation of reinsurance premiums in line with our strategy to exit from the large Commercial segment and lower attributable expenses (management expenses) compensating higher claims from Motor and Fire for the year. Higher net incurred claims and attributable expenses ratio which increased 6.7% YoY were mainly due to four large Fire losses in 2024 and higher Motor losses recorded in the year,” said How.
PBT to normalise after one-off losses
According to the Group, the key events affecting Profit Before Tax (“PBT”) in FY24 were mostly one-off occurrences. Excluding the one-off occurrences, the Group’s PBT would have been RM16.1 million. The Group does not anticipate any future recurrences that would impact the earnings.
“These one-off events included the Group’s exposure to four large Fire losses. The frequency of these large claims was higher than previous years and we expect it to normalise moving forward. Another key event was impairment losses on intangible asset from our digital life insurance entity (Tune Protect Ventures) in 2Q24. Digital life traction was slower than anticipated while the health business can be offered via Tune Protect Malaysia (“TPM”),” said How.
Another key event was TPT’s impairment related to claims recovery in relation to a PA Account which was fully taken up during 2Q24.
Stabilised investment with portfolio rebalancing
The Group’s investment performance stabilised although it declined slightly YoY to RM30.0 million due to market volatility amid a hawkish Fed and the uncertainties of the US policy following Trump’s ascension.
“We continue to maintain a largely conservative investment strategy. During 4Q24, we completed the rebalancing of our portfolio into investment in Low-Risk Unit Trust funds which are predominantly invested in Malaysian Government Securities, Government Investment Issues and Government Guaranteed Corporate Bonds,” said How.
Strong momentum in Travel driving growth
The Group’s key growth focus for the Travel segment in 2025 will be based on the three main pillars of expanding market presence, becoming a travel centre of excellence and going beyond insurance for travel experience.
Aligning to these three main pillars, the Group has already made encouraging progress in 4Q24 when it expanded inbound travel for 10 new markets where the benefits and claims payout reflect the departure country currency for markets such as Australia, India, Japan, Brunei, and Taiwan, among others.
“We have also been aggressively recruiting top travel agents of our key airline partner in Malaysia, and expanding our distribution partners by onboarding four online brokers in Thailand, and four new Online Travel Agencies (“OTAs”) in Thailand and Indonesia for distribution of Travel Insurance in these markets. Besides activating new markets and establishing our network with new partners, we have also rolled out the Delay Lounge Pass in most markets in Asia through our airline partner to provide customers the convenience of airport lounges during flight delays, and we’re planning to expand it to other markets beyond Asia,” said How.
Managing Motor mix portfolio and claims
The Group is committed to managing Claims and Motor mix within the preferred and profitable segments. Other than focusing on the Travel segment, the Group remains vigilant in managing its Motor business through pricing optimisation, portfolio mix improvement and claims management. The Group’s strategy aims to align the Motor claims ratio at par with industry standards and is expecting favourable impact in Motor claims going forward.
“Our strategy aims to improve loss ratio and align the Motor performance with industry standards, with the expectation of favourable impact on the overall Motor claims ratio in 2025. We are planning to gradually increase the portfolio mix for the segment with a better loss ratio,” said How.
Moving forward
In pursuit of deepening its foray in the global travel ecosystem, Tune Protect will continue to elevate its inbound travel products offering with ongoing enhancements to product features, pricing, and benefits to optimise revenue opportunities. To further strengthen its airline partnerships, the Group is enhancing airline platforms and introducing improved products with better benefits, aiming to increase take-up rates among airline partners. Additionally, the Group is also going deeper into the travel ecosystem targeting regional players such as travel agencies, hotel chains, cruises, event organisers, and ticketing platforms.
In line with its growth strategy, Tune Protect is extending its market reach beyond Malaysia, expanding airline travel agent partnerships in Thailand, China, and other key markets. Tune Protect plans to roll out its Delay Lounge Pass services to new regions and exploring innovative bundling opportunities, such as bite-sized Flight Delay Insurance integrated with airline corporate programs. To further enhance traveller experience, Tune Protect is identifying new travel-related value-added services such as eSIMs in the coming quarters.These strategic initiatives reaffirm the Group’s commitment to delivering comprehensive and innovative travel insurance solutions to a global audience.

Outstanding net insurance service result driven by Travel segment
“Overall, the Group’s financial performance in 4Q24 and FY24 was commendable. We registered RM9.5 million PAT for 4Q24 and RM2.7 million for FY24 which signalled a strong recovery trend for the Group,” said How.
The Group’s profits were led by notable growth in net insurance service results, driven by the Travel segment. Net insurance service result for 4Q24 increased 82.8% Quarter-on-Quarter (“QoQ”) to RM11.1 million, and more than 100% YoY to RM3.0 million for FY24. This strong performance was mainly attributable to improvement in our acquisition cost due to changes in our portfolio mix, as well as lower reinsurance ratio.
“Although insurance revenue increased significantly YoY, it declined marginally by 1.2% QoQ to RM99.0 million in 4Q24. Excluding the RM43.6 million Tenang impairment in 4Q23, insurance revenue growth remained strong at 14.2% YoY. PAT increased by over 100%, driven by topline growth, lower reinsurance premiums, lower attributable expenses, and lower tax provisions,” said How.

The collaboration culminated in the Kids Athletic Carnival that united seven schools in the Port Dickson district, celebrating student achievements and fostering a spirit of growth, sportsmanship, and community.

Port Dickson Schools Shine at the 2024 Kids Athletic Carnival
Hosted by SK Kampung Baru Si Rusa, the Kids Athletic Carnival aims to encourage the next generation of athletes
KUALA LUMPUR, 30 December 2024 – Tune Protect Group Berhad (“Tune Protect” or “Group”) proudly collaborated with Sekolah Kebangsaan (“SK”) Kampung Baru Si Rusa to host the 2024 Kids Athletic Carnival as part of its Corporate Good (CSR) commitment to empower communities and promote growth through sports. This vibrant showcase of sportsmanship and youth talent brought together students from seven schools across Port Dickson, celebrating teamwork, resilience, and holistic development among young athletes.
Selected by the Port Dickson District Education Office for its impressive track record in national and state-level championships, SK Kampung Baru Si Rusa served as the perfect venue for the event, with Tune Protect playing a key role in its success. Since October last year, Tune Protect has actively enhanced the school’s facilities and resources, including donating laptops and personal computers, providing sports equipment such as a long jump pit, and refurbishing the school’s digital resource centre.
These efforts also included painting and tiling the digital resource centre, creating vibrant murals, organising community clean-ups, improving the school field, and conducting various student activities. Through these initiatives, the school has been equipped with enhanced facilities and resources, enabling its students to excel in national and state-level championships and host inspiring events like the Kids Athletic Carnival.

KUALA LUMPUR, 30 December 2024 – Tune Protect Group Berhad (“Tune Protect” or “Group”) proudly collaborated with Sekolah Kebangsaan (“SK”) Kampung Baru Si Rusa to host the 2024 Kids Athletic Carnival as part of its Corporate Good (CSR) commitment to empower communities and promote growth through sports.
