Here are the latest requirements set by the government of Malaysia to enter Langkawi. These requirements are specifically for non-citizens of Malaysia. Please note that the information on this page may become outdated and subject to changes depending on further announcements by relevant authorities.
Pre-departure to Malaysia
COVID-19 Screening Test
- Take the RT-PCR COVID-19 / RMT test 2 days before departing for Langkawi Island.
- Test results should be provided in printed or digital form and shown to the authorities upon request.
Purchase of Tour/Travel Packages
- Every tourist must engage a tour operator/travel agent in Malaysia that is registered and licensed with MOTAC (Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture Malaysia, www.motac.gov.my/en/) or a foreign representative who uses their services.
- Free Independent Traveller (FIT) is NOT allowed.
- The tour/ travel package offered must include:
- The particulars of tour operator/travel agent registered and licensed under MOTAC (including license number)
- Round trip flight tickets (either purchased directly with the airline or through a tour operator/ travel agent)
- Accommodation
- Booking / payment of compulsory COVID-19 screening tests
- Tour guide (TG)
- Itinerary/ tour package (need to go through tour operator/ travel agent)
Purchase of Insurance
- Each foreign tourist must purchase an insurance policy worth USD80,000 (COVID-19 and travel) for the duration of their stay in Malaysia.
- Can be purchased from a Malaysian or foreign insurance company before departure
- Can be part of a tourist package by the tour operator / travel agent.
- Can be packaged together with flight tickets by the airline (must cover COVID-19 and travel).
Flights via Kuala Lumpur
Upon arrival at KLIA 1:
- Each tourist will be fitted with an identification tag by the operator
- Each tourist must show:
- Complete vaccination certificate
- Health Declaration Form by MOH (Ministry of Health Malaysia)
- Insurance documents (or package) with minimum USD80,000 coverage (COVID-19 and travel)
- MySejahtera Application – downloaded on the tourist’s electronic device
- Scan the “Langkawi Island International Tourism Bubble Traveller” QR code
- Take the COVID-19 RT-PCR / RMT screening test at the private facility located in KLIA 1
- Booking and payment for this COVID-19 test must be included in the tour package
- Verify results of COVID-19 screening at the MOH counter and confirm quarantine exemption
- Upon clearance from MOH, proceed to the Immigration Department counter
- If a tourist is symptomatic or tested positive, screening operator will arrange to transfer the tourist to a designated isolation / quarantine location (for categories 1 & 2) or private hospitals (for categories 3,4 & 5).
- At the Immigration Department counter, submit:
- Passport
- Visa (if necessary)
- Round trip flight tickets (printed)
- Tour / travel packages (printed)
- Proceed to the check-in counter to continue their journey via domestic flight to Langkawi Island
Direct Flights to Langkawi Island or via Penang (Technical Stop)
- Upon arrival at the Langkawi International Airport (LIA), proceed to the MOH (Ministry of Health Malaysia) counter and submit:
- Vaccination certificate
- RT-PCR COVID-19 / RMT results performed 2 days before boarding the aircraft to Malaysia (printed or digital)
- Health Declaration Form by MOH
- Insurance documents (or package) with minimum USD80,000 coverage (COVID-19 and travel)
- MySejahtera Application – downloaded on the tourist’s electronic device
- Scan the “Langkawi Island International Tourism Bubble Traveller” QR code
- Tourists who pass the health check and screening may proceed to the Immigration Department counter and submit
- Passport
- Visa (if necessary)
- Round trip tickets (printed)
- Tour / travel packages (printed)
- Upon clearance, exit LIA to meet the tour guide and proceed directly to the hotel
- A COVID-19 RT-PCR / RMT test must be performed on the day of arrival (or latest second day) at a private facility that has been booked by the tour operator / travel agent.
- If a tourist is symptomatic or tested positive, the tour operator / travel agent must report to the MOH / private health screening operator to transfer the tourist to a designated isolation / quarantine location (for categories 1 & 2) or private hospitals (for categories 3,4 & 5).
Additional testing
The Ministry of Health Malaysia now requires additional testing due to the spread of Omicron COVID-19 variant.
- Undergo professional RTK-Ag testing on day 3 and 5 after arrival
- Administer self rapid antigen (RT-Ag) testing on day 2, 4 and 6 after arrival
- Undergo RT-PCR testing 2 days before leaving Langkawi
Stay at Langkawi Island (3 – 7 days)
- Foreign tourists can only travel within Langkawi Island until the 7th day
- Tourists must take the COVID-19 RT-PCR test / RMT 2 days before departure
- If found symptomatic or tested positive, the tour operator / travel agent must report to the appointed MOH / private health screening facility to transfer the tourist to a designated isolation / quarantine location (for categories 1 & 2) or private hospitals (for categories 3,4 & 5).
Stay at Langkawi Island / Malaysia (after 7 days)
- Foreign tourists who wish to remain on Langkawi Island for more than seven (7) days or proceed to the next destination either within or outside Malaysia after the 7th day must take the RT-PCR COVID-19 / RMT test:
- On the 7th day if going to another destination in Malaysia; or
- 2 days before leaving Malaysia
- If tested negative, foreign tourists can exit Langkawi Island through the domestic exit (air or sea).
- At exit, document inspection to confirm:
- Minimum seven (7) days stay on Langkawi Island
- Negative RT-PCR COVID-19 / RMT test results
- If found symptomatic or tested positive, the tour operator / travel agent must report to the appointed MOH / private health screening facility to transfer the tourist to a designated isolation / quarantine location (for categories 1 & 2) or private hospitals (for categories 3,4 & 5).
- Upon exiting Langkawi Island, foreign tourists can choose whether to use a tour / travel operator licensed with MOTAC or continue the holidays as a Free Independent Traveller (FIT).
Departure for home outside of Malaysia
- Tourists must take the RT-PCR COVID-19 / RMT 2 days before departing Malaysia
- If found symptomatic or tested positive, the tourist will be sent to a designated isolation / quarantine location (for categories 1 & 2) or a private hospital (for categories 3,4 & 5)
- If tested negative, tourists are allowed to leave Malaysia
General information for travel to Langkawi
- Travel to Langkawi Island shall be by air transport, either via Kuala Lumpur / Penang (technical stop only) or directly to Langkawi Island
- Foreign tourists must stay a minimum of 3 days on Langkawi Island
- Fully vaccinated with a vaccine recognized by the Ministry of Health Malaysia:

- No age limit. Individuals under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent / guardian who is fully vaccinated
- All tourists must download, register and activate the MySejahtera application on their mobile phones / electronic device AND fill in the health information in the application before departing to Malaysia. The application is available on Google Play and Apple App stores.
- All RT-PCR COVID-19 / RMT bookings / screening tests must be paid for by the tourist and can only be done at private facilities
- Quarantine is exempted and the movement of foreign tourists is limited to the district of Langkawi Island for the first seven (7) days only
- After a negative RT-PCR COVID-19 / RMT test result on the 7th day, foreign tourists may continue their journey to other destinations in Malaysia.

- Which plan should I choose to fulfil LTB requirements?
You must purchase the Premium Plan to fulfil LTB requirements. - What is the age limit to purchase COVID Travel Pass+?
COVID Travel Pass+ can cover travellers from age 30 days (infant) to maximum of 70 years old. - If the government restricts entry from a country or airline cancels a flight, can we cancel the insurance and get a refund?

The insurance coverage is for a maximum of 60 days in Malaysia. - If I stay longer than 60 days in Malaysia, can I buy multiple COVID Travel Pass+ policies to cover the entire duration?
Unfortunately no, you can only buy one policy that covers a maximum of 60 days in Malaysia. Each policy starts from the date of arrival in Malaysia. - Is COVID Travel Pass+ only for AirAsia airline?
No, this insurance can be used with any airline.
