You’ve waited long enough for your holiday, it’s finally here and as you arrive at your destination, you realize your nose has started leaking. What terrible luck!
Well, I’ve got news for you, it might not have to do with luck but in fact, how easy it is to fall sick even before your holiday.
Let’s break it down.
It all begins at the very first part of your journey…
The airport!
According to a study from the University of Nottingham and the Finnish National Institute for Health and Welfare, the highest concentration of viruses lies on the plastic security trays in the bag scan check. You know, the bins that we put our carry-ons, shoes, lighter, phone… basically everything for a scan.
Since this is an obligatory step for all departing passengers, the security trays are passed and reused multiple times, potentially touched by hundreds of passengers a day. Can you imagine the amount of collected germs on it? Bleagh.
To Counter:
- Sanitize and wash your hands!
Your battle’s not over yet though. If you survive this, meet your next contender…
Your flight!
Notorious for being a breeding ground for germs, this enclosed space full of people combined with low humidity and pressure is the perfect recipe for the flu bug to jump around.
The low humidity causes the mucous membranes lining in your mouth, nose and throat to become dry, thus making you more susceptible to infection.
To Counter:
- Wipe down your seat, seat belt, and tray
- Sip on water to stay hydrated throughout your flight
- Pump up on vitamins a week before your trip
If you practice these precautionary steps, you might have just swatted the flu bug away. If you didn’t manage to…
