Tune Protect Saves the Day Again During Ramadhan 2019!

It was the 5th time Superheroes gathered at the Wisma Tune Ground Floor Lobby. They came in all shapes and sizes, in answer to the S.O.S. appeal made by the National Blood Bank because of the critically low supply of blood during Ramadhan when our Muslim brothers and sisters are unable to donate blood. Here is our step by step guide on blood donation :

Step 1
Every potential donor will begin with filling out the form provided by the National Blood Bank. Potential donors would have to fill them out honestly and it is the first step in ensuring that the donation is safe for both the donor and donee. It is the preliminary screening that may exclude donors who for various reasons, including lack of sleep, pregnancy, illnesses, congenital conditions, low or high blood pressure, donor under medication…the list is long, and rightfully so, because safety must come first! Regular donors have to undergo the same process to each and every time they donate.

Potential donors must answer all questions honestly

Step 2
After filling out the form, potential donors move to the next station where their weight is taken to make ensure they meet with the minimum weight requirement of 45 kgs. After passing the weight test, their fingers are pricked to confirm their blood type and hemoglobin levels.

At this station, nurses clean the potential donor’s finger with an alcohol swab to rid the finger of all bacteria, virus and contamination

The cleaned finger is then pricked with a sterile disposable needle. It just like an ant bite that even this lady can smile about

Step 3
Next, potential donors meet the doctor for a face-2-face interview. The doctor will ask questions to determine that the information provided is true and it is safe for the donor to proceed. The doctor can reject the donor if she thinks safety will be compromised. For example, potential donors who recently underwent body piercings or tattooing may be asked to defer their donation until several months later.

The gatekeeper doctor interviews every potential donor to ensure that the declarations made are true and the donor is ready to donate. Many get rejected at this stage

With the doctor’s green light, the donor proceeds for registration. A special ID No. will be tagged to the donation. Over here, donors are asked to drink some water

Step 4
Once the donor is registered in the system, a special ID is generated. Occasionally, the Blood Bank may contact the donor is they discover that the blood is contaminated or if the donor is ill. Blood will be screened for certain infectious disease pathogens, such as hepatitis B and C viruses and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV).

Step 5
After donating, donors are treated to light snacks such as biscuits, cream buns and boxed drinks. The Blood Bank also provided a supply several days’ worth of iron and folic acid tablets to replenish the donor’s iron levels. In addition to the certificate of appreciation provided by the Blood Bank, Tune Protect thanked all donors with a collectible Superhero Blood Donor Badge. For this donation, every donor received ProEnergy!
